Eligibility  
A. Team Members
  • All full-time and part-time graduate students in business administration programs from universities throughout Thailand, and invited schools in Asia, are eligible to participate.
 
B. Team Composition
  • Each graduate program can send one team consisting of 3-4 members.
  • At least THREE members of a team must be from same graduate business administration program. The team can also choose another member who is not affiliated with its graduate program.
  • The Bangkok Business Challenge® organizing committee encourages teams to identify individual, external to their programs to be part of the Board of Directors, management team or advisor who may contribute additional expertise and experience to help the team succeed.

Criteria  
 
The judging criteria will be based on the commercial potential of business, innovative nature and technical feasibility of the idea, and the credibility of the projections and assumptions. Judges look favorably upon high potential, growth-oriented business catering to relatively large markets. Teams should refer to Business Plan Guide before writing the business plan.

The result of the Divisional and Final Rounds will be determined by the sum of judges' ranking. Should the sum of judges' ranking ends up equal, average raw scores will be used to determine the winner.

The judges’ decisions are deemed as final in all cases.
 
Qualifying Round
 
Evaluation will be based solely (100%) on the written business plan
 
Divisional Round

    Format  
    A.     Qualifying Round
    • Each team is required to submit a qualifying round package to the organizer that meets all of the requirements listed below. Teams that submit incomplete proposals will be automatically disqualified.
      a) Application submission: all teams must complete a team application form.
      b) Written business plan submission: five (5) hard copies of the business plan are due at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University on or before December 19, 2005 by 5:00 pm. Absolutely no late documents will be accepted.
    • The 12 best business plans will be announced on January 16, 2006.
    • All teams will receive written feedback from the panel of judges and teams are allowed to modify their business plans.
    B.   Divisional Round
    • Twelve (12) hard copies and one (1) soft file of the revised business plan are due at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University on or before February 6, 2006 by 5:00 pm.
    • The 12 qualified teams will be randomly selected to compete in one of the four divisions, after which the winning team from each division will proceed to the Final Round.
    • Each team who qualifies for the Divisional Round is required to present their business plan to a panel of judges.
    • The Divisional Round will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006.
    • Feedback will be provided to each team participating in the Divisional Round.
    C.  Final Round
    • Each team who qualifies for the Final Round is required to present their business plan to a panel of judges.
    • The Final Round will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2006.
    • Feedback will be provided to each team participating in the Final Round.
    D.   Mini Round
    • Eight Teams who do not qualify for the Final Round are required to make a ten-minute presentation and hold a five-minute question-and-answer session on Sunday, March 5, 2006.
    • Not every team member is required to participate in this oral presentation.

    Official Rules and Regulations  
    A.   General Rules & Regulations
    • The proposed venture must be for a seed or start-up business and must address the entire business concept including implementation. Proposals for buy-out, expansion, or development of an existing business, tax-shelter opportunities, real estate syndications, subsidiaries and other consulting projects or analyses are NOT eligible. [A venture which does not conform to this rule will be DISQUALIFIED]
    • The minimum project size must be 10 million baht.The amount sought from the venture capitalists and/or external investors must be between 10-50% of registered capital. Other methods of financing may be combined. [A venture which does not conform to this rule will have 10 marks deducted from the total score (100 marks)]
    • In all cases the judges’ decision is final.
    B.   Written Business Plan
    • Total business plan and appendices must not exceed 45 pages. (including cover page, executive summary, appendices, spreadsheets, illustrations, page breaks, etc.).
    • The main portion of the written business plan must not exceed twenty-five (25) double spaced pages of text and graphics (excluding cover page, executive summary, contents page). Detailed spreadsheets and other supporting data/documents should be in the appendices.
    • The written business plan must be double-spaced.
    • The written business plan must be typed.
    • The font size must be 12.
    C.   Presentation
    • Formal presentation is required by every team in the Divisional and Final Rounds.
    • Every member of the team must participate in the formal oral presentation of the plan.
    • Each team is required to make a twenty-minute presentation, followed by a twenty-minute question-and-answer session with the judges.
    • There will be approximately 10 minutes between each team’s presentations for set-up.
    • A team which has finished its presentation may observe both the presentation and question-and-answer session of the teams that come after it. Teams that have not given their presentations may observe only the presentation segments of teams before them and must exit the room at the beginning of the question-and-answer sessions.
    • TIME LIMITS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
    D.   Venture Exhibit  
    • A Venture Exhibit is required by every team in the Divisional and Final Rounds.
    • Teams will present their business ideas, products and proposed venture and answer questions to judges, guests, and interested individuals at the Venture Exhibit.
    • At least one team member will be required to stay by the displays to answer any questions.
    • The prize of ‘Best Venture Exhibit’ will be rewarded to the team with the best business display concept.
    This category will be evaluated & selected by the 12 qualifying teams.
