Global Competition 2021 Now Complete!

Opening Reception Awards Announcement
Sustainability Round Final Round

After three long months since the Application, many pitching rounds, and countless hours of preparation, the Global Competition concluded on Tuesday March 9th. From a total of 242 applicants of 64 institutions from 26 countries and 6 continents, only one came out as the winner of our Global Competition.

Congratulations to PlasticFri from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, the winner of H.M. The King’s Award and H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Sustainability Award!

This is the first time since the introduction of the Sustainability Royal Trophy in 2015 that a team has won both of our top awards, a truly historic feat! PlasticFri was also the winner of the KASIKORNBANK Global 60-second Pitch, a competition under the name of our main sponsor.

The First Runner-up Award in the Global Competition goes to Team Viridi from Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong. This is the first year that a team from their university has applied and competed in the pitching rounds, a truly remarkable first entry.

Thailand Competition Winners:

The winner of our first standalone Thailand edition is Staplect from Chulalongkorn University. Following them as the First Runner-up is Rambler, a team from School of Global Studies, Thammasat University. The Thailand Competition 60-second Pitch Award goes to Kidney in a Box from Mahidol University.

👏

Congratulations, teams!

The competition is Asia’s Longest-Running Global Student Startup Competition; all disciplines from around the world, both business and non-business related, are welcome. Join us and compete for cash prizes and a prestigious Royal Trophy.

BBC Thailand now its own Competition!

In 2017, the Thailand Track Round was introduced as a separate competition pathway for teams representing Thai Academic Institutions to have a reserved spot in the Semi-final Round. This year, with restrictive international travel, we decided to keep the Global rounds virtual but to break off the Thailand rounds to be its own standalone competition. And so, BBC Thailand 2021 will be hosted online with its own Semi-final and Final Rounds! The Winner of BBC Thailand 2021 will still be awarded a postion of Semi-finalist in BBC Global 2021, but the competition for the spot will be more hard-fought, with more teams, more rounds, and more judges.
